This existing 1,800 square foot single story Eichler house is situated on a narrow flat lot in Palo Alto. The house has been switched multiple hands that interior layout has been added and altered from its original plan, and the house is beginning to deteriorate due to lack of maintenance and repair, hence, it has lost its original shrine.
The goal is to bring back its old-time glory by restating the Eichler features and improving building performance with up-to-date building materials and modern technologies. Much of the interior spaces are strategically reorganized to improve the flow between spaces and enhance utilization. A single car garage is added to the side of the existing wall but intentionally detached from rest of the house structure. The result is an open courtyard centered in the house, which becomes the house focal point not only providing a visual pleasure from dinning and study room but extending the interior to the exterior.
